Non-duality is not a mechanical formula - Nicht-Dualität ist keine mechanische Formel (Rupert Spira)

If, as an apparent person, we think there is nothing to do, we are deluding ourselves. We are washing a veneer of "non-duality" over uncomfortable feelings that we have neither the courage nor the intelligence to face. In this case, non-duality has just become our new religion and we are using it to avoid honestly and courageously facing our actual experience. In this case, the apparently seperate, inside self has simply appropriated the non-dual teachings and is using them in its own defense. Such a position is simply a belief and does not touch the far deeper layers of suffering that live as feelings in our body. In fact, the more vehemently we assert our new religion, the safer the seperate self remains buried in the body. 

Thus we are denying ourselves the very means by which we may see the origin and, therefore, the resolution of our suffering. The only thing that suffering cannot stand is to be understood, that is, to be clearly seen. Suffering is, ultimately, an illusion but in order to see it as such it has to be faced with courage and seen with clarity. The only way out of suffering is right through the heart of it. If we deny ourselves this possibility, we are stuck. It is denial masquerading as acceptance, fear masquerading as peace.

The true teaching is always spontaneous and can assume a great variety of forms to suit the needs of the moment. The prescription "there is nothing to do", is just one of the possible forms of the teaching. If it comes in the moment as the response of love and intelligence to a particular question or situation, then it will be perfect. But if it is applied as a mechanical answer to all questions then it perpetuates the ignorance that it seeks to relieve.

The true teaching is not in the words, it is in the love and understanding from which the words proceed and with which they are permeated. The words are just the packaging of the teaching. They are important but only in so far as they lead back to their place of origin. As such, and in the hand of a skilful and sensitive teacher or friend, a very wide variety of means and expressions will be used depending on the current situation, including from time ot time, expressions that would seem to condone the apparently seperate entity and its corollary, the apparently outside world. 

Likewise, if the teaching comes from clever intellectual analysis and presents words in perfect non-dual formulations but lacking the perfume of experiential understanding and love, they cannot be said to be true non-duality. Non-duality is a living experience not a mechanical formula.

Wenn wir als vermeintliche Person denken, dass es nichts zu tun gäbe, machen wir uns etwas vor. Wir übertünchen mit "Nicht-Dualität" unangenehme Gefühle, denen wir aufgrund mangelnden Mutes und mangelnder Intelligenz nicht begegnen wollen. In diesem Fall ist Nicht-Dualität einfach nur eine neue Religion geworden und wir verwenden sie um der tatsächlichen Erfahrung aus dem Weg zu gehen, nämlich sich ehrlich und mutig unseren tatsächlichen Erfahrungen zu stellen. In diesem Fall hat sich das vermeintlich abgetrennte Selbst im Innern einfach die non-dualen Lehren angeeignet und verwendet sie zu seiner eigenen Verteidigung. So eine Position ist einfach nur ein Glaubenssatz und berührt die weit tiefer liegenden Schichten des Leidens, die als Gefühle in unserem Körper wohnen, nicht. Je vehementer wir unsere neue Religion behaupten, desto sicherer bleibt das getrennte Selbst im Körper begraben. Auf diese Weise verwehren wir uns gerade die Mittel, mit deren Hilfe wir den Ursprung des Leidens sehen könnten und somit auch die einhergehende Lösung des Leidens. Das Einzige, was das Leiden nicht ausstehen kann, ist verstanden zu werden, sprich klar gesehen zu werden. Letztendlich ist das Leiden eine Illusion, aber um es als solches zu sehen, muss man ihm mutig und klar ins Auge sehen. Der einzige Weg aus dem Leiden ist direkt mitten hinein. Wenn wir uns diese Möglichkeit verweigern, bleiben wir stecken. Das ist Vermeidung maskiert als Akzeptanz und Angst maskiert als Friede.

Die wahre Lehre ist immer spontan und kann eine große Variation an Formen annehmen, je nach Bedarf des Augenblicks. Die Aussage "es gibt nichts zu tun" ist nur eine der möglichen Formen der Lehre. Wenn die Antwort auf eine bestimmte Frage oder Situation aus der Liebe und Intelligenz heraus kommt, ist das perfekt. Wenn es jedoch als mechanische Antwort zu allen Fragen angewendet wird, hält es die Ignoranz aufrecht, von der man befreit werden möchte.

Die wahre Lehre wird nicht in Worten gefunden, sie liegt in der Liebe und in dem Verständnis, von wo diese Wörter vorrücken und womit sie durchdrungen werden. Die Wörter sind bloß die Verpackung der Lehre. Sie sind wichtig aber nur in dem Maße, in dem sie zum Ursprung zurückführen. Als solches werden von einem geschickten und einfühlsamen Lehrer eine breite Palette von Mitteln und Ausdrücken verwendet - je nach gegenwärtiger Situation. Das schließt nicht aus, dass von Zeit zu Zeit etwas gesagt wird, das die vermeintlich getrennte Person und ihre Begleiterscheinung, die vermeintlich äußere Welt, billigt. 

Ähnlich steht es damit, wenn die Lehre von klugen, intellektuellen Analysen kommen und in perfekten, nicht-dualen Formulierungen präsentiert wird, jedoch keinen Duft von erfahrbarem Verständnis oder Liebe verströmen, dann kann man genauso wenig von wahrer Nicht-Dualität sprechen. Nicht-Dualität ist eine gelebte Erfahrung und keine mechanische Formel.
